Rn teaches us how to do these things and we make a choice to do a little but not all of it. As I look back now I see how I have done just enough to get by I have not done the hard work to make the change I have been lazy and complacent with my recovery when things are perceived to be going well I slow down. I should be speeding up and working harder to keep my life in balance. It becomes that false since of security. I feel balanced and then feel I am doing great, well the true addiction is still there I have not challenged it. This is where I am having the issues understanding the challenging part. I understand I will look at an actions and evaluate them. What I don’t understand is how do they change from that? I now can stop a trigger or an urge at any point with my awareness that is not health because I still have the triggers or urges. How does the trigger go away will I just identify with my values more then my addiction over time or what is going to happen that will make me stop sexualizing and objectifying. I believe that there will be a point where my values will tip the scales the other way. Away from addiction and to values… Is this how it has happened to others? What have you experienced in this transformation to health?

Hi rifleman
I guess that there is no one size fits all answer to this
Coach Jon actually says in his lessons that there is no other side to come through
It is also said by many that recovery is a journey not a destination

you should feel better emotionally., mentally and physically as you travel along the path
yes there is a definite need to not become complacent but that gets easier with time
for me its like growing up
when I was at school this terms lessons was about learning something new but its not until next term when you start to use it that it really becomes meaningful
Could it be that some part of you is protecting the addiction "just in case you need it"?

well believe me you dont need it acting out only puts off whatever is the perceived cause of it, our addiction exists in our heads because we choose to let it

you can make your own choices, make the right ones

I remember in on of the later lessons there was a statement that said something like... "the recovered person knows that triggers are ever where. They also know that they are no where".

Basically to use a Matrix analogy, your trying to bend a spoon and there is no spoon. All of the triggers are in your head, they don't really exist in the real world, they are creations of your addiction.

Now does that mean that there are no temptations in the world? No, the world is full of them in part because we are animals and temptations, whether they be food, sex, etc play upon our animal instincts. But a temptation is not a sin. Jesus (you can plug in Buddha, teacher, etc) did not sin when tempted by worldly things. The temptations were real because if they were not, than the story of the temptation would be pointless.

My 12 step sponsor told me that instead of trying to white knuckle through scanning, if I see a tempting person, I acknowledge their beauty, then move on. There is something peaceful about that to me and it is far better then scanning then shaming myself for being tempted.
